Bishop Lavis Secondary believes that no child who is hungry will have the ability to concentrate in school, and to prohibit any child from suffering academically we partnered with The National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP), run by the Department of Basic Education. The school’s feeding programme responds to the basic nutritional needs through the generous produce supplied by the NSNP. The NSNP provides learners with a small amount of food that consists of protein (soya, fish, milk, beans, and lentils), fresh fruit and vegetables, and carbohydrate/starch on a daily basis. These foods contain the nutrients essential to healthy, growing children.
Our volunteers, Olga Khan and Georgina Cook (known as Aunty G) ensure that no child who attends school has an empty stomach, every day they relieve our learners’ hunger with a balanced nutritional meal.
