Covid-19 touched the hearts and souls of the BLHS family, in quick succession we had to bid farewell to three of our dear colleagues who succumb to this pandemic in quick succession.

Mr Steenkamp

“Die sout van die aarde”. A humble, quiet, respectable gentleman who always greeted you with a smile, was always courteous to everyone who he came in contact with and performed his duties impeccably. Mr Steenkamp joined our school as an assistant caretaker, one of his responsibilities was overseeing the school’s hall. He really took pride in his work and this facility was spotless, floors would shine like newly polished shoes.

After leaving the school for a few years he again joined our institution taking charge of the printing room and ensuring that the teachers printing needs were fulfilled, again his service was outstanding. The printers were his pride and joy, as he meticulously cleaned them after every print run. His interaction with staff members could not be faulted as he went the extra mile to ensure that everyone received their printing on time.

It was with sadness when we heard that he had succumb to this virus and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and love ones. We are really going to miss you Mr Steenkamp, and may you rest in peace forever.
