The new academic year was delayed from the 25 January 2021 to the 1 February 2021. With the turmoil and tragedies that our school faced just before the start of the new academic year its give us great pleasure to welcome six new educators to our school. Mr A. Rabie and Mr J. Hendricks have a wealth of experience and we look forward to them enhancing the various departments that they will be working in. We pray that your stay at BLHS will be beneficial to both you and the broader BLHS community.

Mr L. Barnabas

My name is Lincoln Barnabas, and I am originally from Macassar, a little town on the outskirts of Somerset West.

I studied BA-Psychology and Afrikaans/Nederlands. Thereafter, I continued with post graduate studies and completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in 2018.

I have been teaching for the last two years and recently joined the Bishop Lavis High School family. Here, at Bishop Lavis High School, I found a kind and caring staff who is very supportive. Educators are goal driven and always strive to empower learners.

I am confident that with my experience I would make a positive contribution the school community.

Mr Barnabas (LB) will be teaching:

  • Religion Studies Grade 10 & 11
  • Afrikaans Home Language
  • Afrikaans First Additional Language

Mr Jade Cloete

My name is Jade Cloete and I am living my dream. Ever since my high school days at Elsies River High School, I had a love for Math and IT. As many expected, after completing my matric year in 2016, I went on to major in Computer Science at the University of Western Cape. In June 2020, I completed my BSc Computer Science degree, and I could not search for a job yet as I was waiting for a proof that I have completed my studies from the university. Being the person that I am, I did not want to waste time by waiting, thus I decided to apply for the teacher’s assistant position at Bishop Lavis High School. During my 2,5 months at Bishop Lavis High School, I found a love for teaching, especially teaching Mathematics. I also found some type of satisfaction in seeing how learners are bewondered when they are taught something new. Thus, leading to my decision to complete my PGCE in the year 2021 and live out my newfound dream of teaching Mathematics. I give thanks to Mr. K Sonn for giving this inexperienced, young man an opportunity of a lifetime, and helping him make major steps towards achieving his dream. I will always be grateful for his belief in me, and I will make sure he does not regret the decision he made when he decided to give me this opportunity.

Mr J. Cloete (JC) will be teaching:

  • Mathematics Grade 9, 10, 11 & 12
  • Maths Lit.

Ms Linaach Louw

My name is Linaach Louw and I am an alumna of Bishop Lavis High School, as well as a resident of the area itself. I completed my Bachelor of Education degree at the University of the Western Cape in 2020. I was a teacher’s assistant last year at the school, which gave me a glimpse of what it is like being a teacher of Bishop Lavis High School. This is my first year teaching full-time, and I must say that it has been an honour to serve as an educator at the school. The staff is extremely helpful and supportive, and one of the things I admire is that they are continuously striving towards improvement and innovation for the sake of the learners. I look forward to learning, gaining experience, being an asset to the school and adding to the amazing success the school consistently aims for.

I will be teaching English First Additional Language
Grade 12, 10 & 9

Mr Ashley Solomons

My name is Ashley Solomons and I am a newly acquainted Bishop Lavian. I am originally from the Southern Suburb
of Ottery but now reside in the Northern Suburb of Thornton. I recently completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at the University of Cape Town (with my Major Subject being English) and completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Western Cape in 2017. This year is my freshman year in the teaching profession and hopefully the first of many.

Thus far, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bishop Lavis High School. The school has exceeded all my expectations  with the way it is run and the structures in place to achieve success. In addition, the school  has the most helpful, experienced teaching staff that can only be beneficial to me as a young educator that has so much to learn. I am excited to absorb as much information as possible from everyone at Bishop Lavis High School and look forward to passing on valuable knowledge to the next generation.

Some of the classes I will be teaching includes:

  • English Home Language Grade 12
  • English FAL Grade 11 and 12
